Language Arts News – May 19
Posted on: May 19, 2011
Hi Everyone!
It has been another busy week. We are finished with all of the Arabic testing now. We also took the Lesson 22 Test in Language Arts. The students did a great job, and most of them improved their scores from the last test. Wonderful!! We started a new selection in our reading book. We are reading about the redwood trees in North America. Our main focus for the two weeks will be identifying text and graphic features, demonstrating understanding of the selection, identifying and using the target vocabulary, using quotation marks correctly in sentences, and writing a procedural composition. Next week we will learn the spelling words for Unit 25 (VV Pattern).
Super Stars this week are Dana Ashraf Afifi in 4A and Hannah Elgharabawy in 4B. Both girls brought up their test scores in language arts by many points. Also Hannah made an extra effort to improve her answers to comprehension questions. She willingly did the assignment over when given the chance and came in for extra help. I am very proud of both of these students!
Homework:
1. Read 20 minutes each night.
2. 4B only – Design and draw a timeline of the life of the redwood tree. Use colored pencils or crayons, but please do not use markers. Use a ruler and draw your timeline on good, blank paper.
2. 4A only – Write a journal entry for Friday and a journal entry for Saturday. Be sure to proofread what you write and make sure it makes sense and is neat and easy to read.
I will post the spelling words for next week on Friday. Have a lovely weekend!

The students read a story this week and did a dictation. They worked very well and had a good session. There is no homework assigned at this time.
