Hi Again,

I forgot to include this information for those students who take German. Ms. Aya reminds you to finish your activity book up to page 57. She also mentioned that you may have a quiz as well about Chapter 5. I am sure you will all do a good job and are already prepared.

Hi All,

There are not too many days left this trimester, so the students have been very busy and will continue to be as we move towards the end of the school year. As you know, I moved the testing date for the Lesson 23 Test to Tuesday, May 31, 2011. We are also doing the end of year MAP Tests on the computers. There is nothing for the students to study in order to prepare for this test. They will take the tests on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week. They will probably only take about an hour each day to complete. I will go ahead for the L.A. test unless we just run out of time. The children should study the target vocabulary words for Unit 23 and reread the selection in their text. I will also review with them in class on Sunday and Monday.

Our Super Stars this week are Adham Sakar in class 4A and Tia Hufstetler in class 4B. Both of these students have done very well in math, science, social studies, and language arts. Their other teachers and I agree that they deserve the recognition. Congratulations Adham and Tia!

Homework:

1. Read 20 minutes each night.

2. Leveled Reader – Read aloud to your parent and complete the chart on page 15.

3. Write draft of procedural paragraph. (4B only)

I am including the link for the Unit 26 spelling words in this post. I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

 Spelling List-U. 25

Hi Everyone!

It has been another busy week. We are finished with all of the Arabic testing now. We also took the Lesson 22 Test in Language Arts. The students did a great job, and most of them improved their scores from the last test. Wonderful!! We started a new selection in our reading book. We are reading about the redwood trees in North America. Our main focus for the two weeks will be identifying text and graphic features, demonstrating understanding of the selection, identifying and using the target vocabulary,  using quotation marks correctly in sentences, and writing a procedural composition. Next week we will learn the spelling words for Unit 25 (VV Pattern).

Super Stars this week are Dana Ashraf Afifi in 4A and Hannah Elgharabawy in 4B. Both girls brought up their test scores in language arts by many points. Also Hannah made an extra effort to improve her answers to comprehension questions. She willingly did the assignment over when given the chance and came in for extra help. I am very proud of both of these students!

Homework:

1. Read 20 minutes each night.

2. 4B only –  Design and draw a timeline of the life of the redwood tree. Use colored pencils or crayons, but please do not use markers. Use a ruler and draw your timeline on good, blank paper.

2. 4A only – Write a journal entry for Friday and a journal entry for Saturday. Be sure to proofread what you write and make sure it makes sense and is neat and easy to read.

I will post the spelling words for next week on Friday. Have a lovely weekend!

German:

The students read a story this week and did a dictation. They worked very well and had a good session. There is no homework assigned at this time.

This week we went to the computer lab and researched about the important Pharaohs.   Their homework is to finish up the research and print out. The best site to search is ask.com, they have to write what they are famous for and what kingdom they were in (new kingdom, middle kingdom or new kingdom).

The names are:

Pepy II, Tuthmosis III, Ramses II, Queen Hatshepsut, Tuthmosis IV, Mentuhotep II, Amenemhat I, Khufu, Sesostris III, Akhenaten(AmenhotepIV), Nefertiti, Tutankhamen.
