Grade 4 : GP School

Good Afternoon,

This week we started a new story and lesson. We read “Antarctica Journal” and added new vocabulary to the copy books. Our focus is on the skill of cause and effect as well as summarizing stories. The students have read two leveled readers about Antarctica and will bring home a third book this weekend to read. The students also worked on their memory books about the revolution in our class and in IT. They are putting their paragraphs in the computer and adding illustrations.

Next week we will continue with the same lesson. We will also study and review regular verbs, practice locating information in an article, and move to the next spelling unit (U. 15). You can access the new spelling list by clicking on the link at the end of this posting. The students will take the lesson test for the “Antarctica Journal” next Thursday (March 31). The test will cover target vocabulary, comprehension, verbs, and word parts. If the students are attentive in class, do their homework, and ask questions, they should all be more than ready to take the test. They should not have to have extra study time on Wednesday night. They can review the target vocabulary, and they can also reread the story if they want to refresh their memories. Rereading the story can take the place of the twenty minute reading time on that night.

New Super Stars this week are Omar Aref in class 4A and Tia Hufstetler in class 4B. Both students did very well academically and had good behavior. I can depend on them to bring in their homework each day, participate in class, and try to do their best work on tests and other assignments.

Homework for this weekend:

1. Read 20 minutes each night.

2. Leveled Readers – Read silently and then read aloud to your parent. Copy and complete the chart on page 15.

Have a gread weekend everyone!
